Welcome to our students from Lebanon

Please welcome our Empire State College students from Lebanon. This summer I had the pleasure of meeting the students in Antalya, Turkey for a one week face to face residency. The students are taking a course in Mediterranean Business. Each student researched a different country within the Mediterranean. I am hoping the students will share a bit about themselves, about the country they researched and their personal experiences. And so far today our Blog has has 79 views!

  1. Hello, my name is Walid Khomassi I’m Lebanese but raised in Venezuela and then came back to Lebanon to do university here. I’m majoring in Graphic Design and this is my last year studying in American University Of Science and Technology and doing my program at ESC and hoping to graduate this year.
I work in branding and designing with partner in our company called Free lancers in Lebanon.
In my country Lebanon, sustainability is an issue barely known for most business. It’s an issue which they overlook because the government doesn’t impose strict rules and most wealthy business owners have strong connections with regulators and don't care much about the community. Although there's a couple of NGO and leading companies in that area , hope it'll catch up and everyone start doing business smartly. In my country of research Jordan great efforts are being done in order to improve sustainability, for example the government there is working on a city that complies with sustainability regulations which would host a million citizens. Also they host conferences on the subject like the one held in 2010.

In my country Lebanon, sustainability is an issue not known by most business. Unfortunately in Lebanon government doesn’t force strict rules and regulations on business and in the same time the business owners they have good connections with governmental regulators and there are no rules between them. While In my country of research Malta, which was very interesting to research about, hard work are being done in order to improve sustainability.
In Lebanon during the workshop took place on Friday 27 March 2009 in the house of assembly in the presence of Mr. Seifeldin Abbaro. “During this workshop, the initiative of a national partnership towards a sustainable Lebanon was launched in order to specify the challenges of the sustainable development based on the Millennium development goals and the Johannesburg plan of action”. http://www.undp.org.lb/communication/news/NewsDetail.cfm?newsId=156
“The participants in this workshop announced that the initiative will last until 2020.
